January 2025 PHAC Ontario Region Updates  

CAPC-CPNP Online Participant Surveys and Training Sessions 
The surveys have been launched and promotion for completion should have started. Surveys will be open from January 7th, 2025, until February 4th, 2025. If you need to access the surveys or any of the supporting materials (e.g., training presentation decks, FAQ’s, User Guide, Promotional Posters), they are available for download at the links below.

UPDATES ON CAPC AND CPNP 

The CAPC/CPNP solicitation for 2026-2030 is expected in Winter 2025 with an anticipated 8-week turnaround. The ISFR process will be targeted solicitation (open only to existing CAPC and CPNP funding recipients who are in good standing), and those invited will submit proposals at current funding levels. We will continue to keep you updated with more details as the date of the proposal application process approaches. The new program will be called the Community Action for Prenatal and Child Health Program (CAPCHP). 

The refreshed objectives of CAPCHP will continue to focus on health promotion.  

They are: 

To build community capacity to encourage to encourage and support the health and well-being of pregnant women and people, infants and children (0-6 years) and their parents and caregivers; 

To build partnerships and intersectoral collaboration to promote the health and well-being of pregnant women and people, infants and children (0-6 years) and their parents and caregivers; 

To facilitate the development and exchange of knowledge to promote the health and well-being of pregnant women and people, infants and children (0-6 years) and their parents and caregivers;

2024-2025 Progress monitoring calls (PMCs) 

Please note program consultants are working on PMCs. Please ensure you contact your PC if you have not had your PMC, to set a time to meet.  

2024-2025 Progress Reports 

Note: the next progress report due date is coming up. Please check your appendix C to know if you have to submit one, and/or for due dates and requirements on progress reports.   

  • Remember that the due dates and frequency for Progress Reports are indicated in Appendix C – Reporting Plan of the recipient’s Contribution Agreement. 

  • The due dates are July 31st, October 31st, and/or January 31st depending on risk level. 

Ask your PC if you have any questions. 

2024-2025 Notice of underspending 

Please note that CGC will be sending out a reminder to submit your Notice of Underspending, which is due January 31st. So make sure you review your budgets and plan accordingly for the spending of all your funds. 

2024-2025 ART  

PHAC Program Consultants have shared a hard copy of the Annual Reporting Tool for FY 2024-2025 which will help you collect the data during the reporting year to fill in this report. Should you have any questions or did not receive the email, please reach out to your Program Consultant.

  • FASD Training:  

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) continues to work with the Canada Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Research Network (CanFASD) to develop and pilot an online FASD training course tailored to the needs of Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) and Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) projects.

PHAC is working alongside the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences to do an assessment of FASD in Canada. Consultations have been finalized and a report is currently being developed.

Results: University of Toronto national survey of lactation and food supports offered to participants through CPNP 

Last year, researchers from the University of Toronto completed a national survey of lactation and food support offered to participants through CPNP programming, and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
