The Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA) Alcohol Workgroup and the Canadian Alcohol Policy Evaluation (CAPE) Community of Practice is pleased to host this webinar that will:
- present the prevalence of alcohol consumption in Ontario as well its connection to deaths, emergency department visits and hospitalizations, due to chronic diseases.
- present effective alcohol controls for municipalities, in light of current and potential future expansion of alcohol sales (e.g., grocery stores, corner stores).
- review the impacts of expansion of alcohol sales in Ontario grocery stores and speak to implications of further potential increases in access.
- share the experience of one local health unit who partnered with their municipality and utilized sociodemographic and health data to prevent the expansion of alcohol retail availability in a neighbourhood experiencing low socio-economic factors.
