The Office of Audit and Evaluation is pleased to announce that the Evaluation of the Public Health Agency of Canada's Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Program report, as well as its Results at a Glance document, are available online.

PHAC’s FASD program seeks to reduce alcohol-affected births and address the underlying conditions that make Canadians vulnerable to consuming alcohol during pregnancy. The goal of the FASD program is to provide strategic federal leadership and coordination to prevent FASD, and to improve the health and social outcomes for those with FASD. The program and its FASD Strategic Plan are composed of the funding and policy activities led by the Centre for Health Promotion (CHP), including management of the National Strategic Projects Fund (NSPF), and of surveillance activities led by the Centre for Surveillance and Applied Research (CSAR).

The evaluation focused primarily on the effectiveness of the FASD Program, and covered activities from 2017-18 to 2021-22.

The report presents findings on the roles played by other government departments that help support adults living with FASD, as well as on further opportunities for collaboration, the sustainability of Agency activities, and progress against achievement of outcomes for PHAC’s surveillance activities and PHAC’s community-based funding through the NSPF.

Management Response and Action Plan has been developed to respond to the evaluation recommendations.
